Consuelo Barillas-Chapter 14 The Empty nest

Opal and I have decided that its high time that we move out on our own. We told my mom about it and she was shocked to hear we were going to move out.

My mom's business has been expanding somewhat. Her client base is growing but she may need to invest in a few more inventory items.

Opal and I are doing great in our marriage but being married for over 4 years takes a toll. We are falling into a rut of going to work, coming home, taking care of Hellen and we start it all over again the next day. Therefore I decided to ask my moms to baby sit while I took Opal out for dinner.

It had been a long time since we were able to go out and enjoy ourselves alone. We are 25 but sometimes I feel that we act as old as my parents. This is one of the reasons I want us to move out.

We ate, we danced and we did a little public woo hoo. We figured we might as well get the most of our night out. Thank god we were not spotted in the bathroom by no one else.

I guess my moms also got the dating fever because they too have started going out on dates. I am glad that my moms are going out more. Now they will be empty nesters and I can imagine how boring it will get when we move.

We told my parents that we were moving to Colorado Springs they were not too happy. How were they going to see their granddaughter Hellen if we lived so far away. I told them that they could now see my sisters and us at the same time. They were reluctant but what could they really do? We are old enough to branch out on our own.

When we finished packing I saw my moms hugging each other. I still could not believe after all they have been through they are still together. Now they were going to be able to be at home and do what they wanted since we have all officially moved out.

Amarilis Barillas

My mom's are happy because I got accepted to college. I can't believe that they would be so glad for me potentially going to college.

I say potentially because Anthony and I are getting more serious. We have been together for over three years. Instead of our relationship cooling down, it has gotten more intense.

My mom's don't approve of us being in my room, but there is not privacy in this house. Having three little siblings does not help in the privacy area.

Anthony is starting his last year at school. He says that I should go to school too but honestly I just rather be with him.

One afternoon right before I told him about my college decision, he got down on one knee and proposed to me. I knew my answer would be yes.

I cant believe that im getting married. I wanted to get married before school so that we could room together.

We ran downstairs and told my mom Meadow the news. She was shocked and asked me what I was going to do about school. I told her that I wanted to attend school with Anthony but for now that would be impossible because I could not afford his tuition. Also going to that school for a year and transferring would be more of a hassle.

My mom was so surprised that she was speechless. She kept telling us that she did not know how my mom Amarilis would react to such news. We were still excited about being together all the time now.

We were still trying to tell my mom that I would go to college when my other mom came home. She asked what was going on when she saw my engagement ring. I can honestly say that I did not foresee her reaction.

She started comparing me to Aaron and how it was so hard for him to get his degree with quads. I told her that I was not pregnant nor did I have a pack of Quads that would hinder me from going to school. She was so opposed to this marriage and did not want to hear anything other than her words.

We screamed and I told her that she was entitled to her opinion but that I was done and I was moving out. I just ran upstairs and picked up a few items. Anthony kept chasing me telling me to slow down to talk things out. I did not want to do such a thing. I wanted out and I told him we were going to find an apartment.

Sometimes Amarilis cannot hold her temper in check. She escalates so fast and the kids see another side of their mom that they are not used to. I told her that everything will be OK but I also know Arthur and he is not coming back.

I guess Arthur called Isabel and Aaron to tell them what is going on because they rushed over. I told them what happened and Aaron could not believe that Arthur had actually left. This was not what we had in mind when we wanted Arthur to explore other things.


I made dinner and Veronica decided to come over after her job. We all sat down but everyone clearly missed Arthur. I wondered if he was eating and where he was going to sleep tonight. I thought that he would go to Isabel's but he did not. He did not even try to go over to Aaron's for a night.

Veronica assured me that everything was going to be OK. She is so nice, and im happy that she and Isabel are dating again. I think that they have a bright future ahead of themselves.

Amarilis was worried about Arthur but I told her that we needed to relax. We needed to let Arthur live his life and mend our relationship with him. For now it was important that he was in a warm safe place. I just hope that Amarilis and Arthur's relationship can mend. Hopefully little by little it will....

Oscar Simon II Barillas

Simon and Brandi are happy because they are finally debt free. Now they can go ahead and finish remodeling their vacation home. It was different for them knowing that their salaries are going to their savings rather than loans.

Brandi has found several opportunities to take a masters degree but she does not have time. Its bad enough she is too tired after work to come home and study. She finished college over 25 years ago! She did not have the need for a masters. She was not that bored yet.

Joshua Jr. decided to come home. His parents offered since they are now going to be more in Tikki Island than Viramontes. Joshua wanted to be at home so that he could save some money.

They decided to give Joshua Melody's old room. Of course they redecorated it to suit Josh's style.

Joshua loved being home because it had all the amenities that a new apartment would not have. It was wierd sitting at the computer seeing a picture of himself as a toddler with his dad.

Ava White came over to visit Joshua. After graduation they did not talk about moving in together since Joshua did not have the finances to get an apartment.

They got reacquainted and it was great to see how maybe in the future they would be engaged.

They had dinner and Ava got a chance to meet the family. She did know that Joshua had a big family but seeing it and hearing of them is different.

Melody got a chance to meet Ava and kept her opinion to herself. There was something about Ava that she couldnt quite put her finger on. Yet again there would be no one that great for her little brother in her eyes.

Ava got questioned about her family life and her years at college. She had moved to Paradise Cove for now but was looking to maybe one day move to Viramontes. As of now her job did not allow her to move.

Brandi did like Ava since they had met before. She looked at them and wondered if she was the one that Joshua would end up marrying. As a mom she could not put her hopes all in one girl. She would have to respect what Joshua decided.

So far everything was going good for the both of them. The family looked at them as they flirted with each other and fed morsels of food to one another. Oscar Simon just looked at them and thought back to his college days when he had met his wife Brandi.

As always Brandi held the Barillas wives club meeting at her house. The gathering of all the married Barillas women started many years ago. The meetings have continued through out the years.

Usually they watch a movie, discuss a book or just get together to catch up on everyone's lives. Holding a meeting like this with no children is essential to Brandi and the groups particpants.

Renee (Marcos' wife) is the newest member. They even have ex-wives who wish to stay in the group. For now Debbie Parmelly (Ian's ex wife) continues to come while Linda Shibn (Marcos' ex-wife) has begun to withdraw from these events.



Brandi took an opportunity to congratulate Debbie on her recent marriage to Ronan. She was glad to call Debbie a friend after all these years. Brandi being the wife of the Legacy leader was in charge of keeping contact with the wives.

A week later her son Joshua came home with a dog. He brought home what seemed like a newborn puppy. Both Brandi and Oscar Simon wanted to protest but in the end Joshua was an adult now. All agreed to keep the pup and see how well he aclimated to the Barillas household.

Joshua could not wait until Ava saw his new purchase. The minute she came over he knew something was different. He asked her in and hoped that it was nothing too terrible.

Ava began saying that it was her not Joshua that needed a break from this relationship. With Ava living in Colorado Springs, it was too hard to maintain a close relationship. Joshua was stunned that she actually wanted out.

As much as he wanted to convince her to stay, he let her go. It was not in the cards for them now, but maybe in the future they could get together.

Joshua hugged her and told her that this was not a good bye but a see you later type of break up. He was not as stable as her so he needed time to have something to offer her. For now they would "remain friends" but he could not help to think that this was the last time he would see her.

Author's note:
Joshua rolled no romantic wants for Ava at all. I figured I would break them up and see what else is out there. The minute that they broke up and Ava left the lot, Joshua began rolling wants for her. Now I have to decide whether or not to pursue the wants. I say this because when I play Joshua again, I am not sure if his wants will re roll something different.
